Bill Matson ONZM

August 11th, 2011

It is with great sadness that Swimming Wellington advises the passing of Bill Matson who was a Vice President of FINA, swimmings world governing body. Bill had  attended the FINA World Championships in Shanghai.  Bill was awarded a Queens Service Medal last year [ONZM] and was awarded the Wellington Sports Life Time Achievement Award for services to Swimming in 2010.

Bill was a member of the SNZ Technical Advisory Committee, Life Member of Swimming New Zealand, Life Member of Swimming Wellington and Life member of the Raumati Swimming Club.  Although many of us would have seen Bill recently on screen at the FINA World Championships, Bill could never resist the opportunity to help at the grassroots level assisting with local Raumati Swimming Club meets and Swimming Wellington events.  Bill’s contribution has been outstanding with a passion second to none.

Our thoughts are with Joan, Paul,  Suzzie and family.  Bill’s funeral details are;
